Senator John McCain's Founding Fathers: Me, Myself and I

I am somewhat a late bloomer when it comes to certain things.  And as I suggest in most of my writings, seminars and radio broadcasts I don’t believe in coincidence as a random act of chance.  I recently watched the movies 2016:  Obama’s America and HBO’s Game Change in the span of a weekend.

HBO’s Game Change portrayed Sarah Palin as inept and ill-equipped to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.  And in that film, Senator John McCain was depicted as a foul-mouthed, but well intended politician that was more concerned how his grandchildren remembered his campaign rather than exposing and politicizing certain relationships then Senator Barack Obama had with certain political activists.  The dichotomy became clear in that film as Senator McCain’s insistence on taking the highroad clashed with Governor Palin’s passion for confrontation.  The results are now obvious and the election results history.

2016:  Obama’s America makes the suggestion that the president’s policies, both domestic and foreign are based on his father’s beliefs that America should pay for worldwide colonial pursuits by becoming less and less influential and powerful.  The film provides many examples of this colonial mindedness and to provide a listing of each would be unfair to those that have produced the movie.  But one aspect of the film lists those that have served as Obama’s mentors.  From Reverend Jeremiah Wright to Bill Ayers, and there are others that are members of a select group of philosophers, political activists and educators that were described as Obama’s Founding Fathers.  And each was described as how they shaped the mind of the 44th President of the United States.  And this group is extremely suspect when it comes to ethical, legal and moral extremes each would twist to exploit and promote their agendas.  Now, this is not a criticism of who Barack Obama is or what he stands for, one can simply ask the question, “Am I better off now than I was in 2008?”  This is instead a suggestion that the integrity of Senator John McCain is not beyond reproach as many promote.

Does one have the moral obligation to pull someone from the path of an oncoming bus?  Most, if not all would answer with a resounding yes.  To debate that the one standing in the way of the bus is exercising freewill and knows what’s best is a presumption based on absurdity.  One must act and the one acting does not do so with the consideration of how their grandchildren will remember the heroic deed.  No, one does it because it is the right thing to do.  So, even though there were media personalities that one can say were Senator John McCain’s mouth piece for exposing Obama’s mentors, where was John McCain, and why didn’t he pull us from the oncoming bus?  John McCain was more concerned with his legacy as opposed to his country’s future.  Wanting to conduct an honorable campaign his grandchildren would be proud of mesmerizes the logic of most people – not mine, however.  So, who were Senator McCain’s founding fathers?  Were they Washington, Jefferson or Franklin?  I don’t think so.  I believe them to be Me, Myself and I!
